I'm looking at 16x8 (4" backspacing) wheels with 265/70-16 Rugged Trail tires for a '83 F-100 short bed, 4x2. Was wondering if these would fit without rubbing on a truck that hasn't been lifted or anything. For compairison, this tire looks to be the same width and diameter as a 31-10.50R15.
I don't know what the factory backspacing is too compare to the specs on the wheels you are looking at, but a 31" tire is very popular size for the 2wd trucks. You might get slight rubbing of the radius arms, but I really dont see any problems with running that setup. I think I had the very same setup on a 95 2wd F-150. Never had any problems.
i have 32-10.50R15 on my 86 F-150 but it s a 4x4. they clear the fenders and stil have room for a 33 maby 33 1/2 . but hey rub the raduis arms pretty bad.
You know what, I can't believe I forgot this, but my first truck was an 1983 F-100. I was running 31x10.50's on 15x8 wagon wheels for a while. I eventually put 4x4 coils on it and ran 33"s.
Thanks for the help. I have a set of Pro Comp 16x8's on order. When they get here I'll see if Discount tire will mount a 265/70R16 tire to check for interference. If it's too wide I'll probably go with a 245/75R16. Now I'm thinking I might go with Dunlop Rover AT's instead of the Goodrich Rugged Trails. The Dunlop is less expensive and has a 60,000 mile tread warranty. May be quieter too.
I got the 265/70R-16 tires mounted on the 16x8 wheels. The fill out the wheel well nicely. the only problem now is they rub the liner at the edge of the fenders at the top of the suspension travel. I've ordered a 1.5" suspension lift that I think will take care of that.
