Hey guys and gals,
I stumbled on a thread earlier but can't find it. I need to know how to read the VIN to determine gears etc. for a 99 F350 If someone knows could you clue me in.
Yup. I thought I was in the Diesel section and turns out I was in the Superduty section when I found it. Thanks for the quick post. I'm going to look at a 99 F350 CC short box with 90 K on it. Price seems right at 17,900. I just want to know what I'm looking at when I get there. Anything to be careful of on a 99? Most poeple seem to say these are pretty bullet proof trucks. My cousin has 3 F250 PSD's each over 350K says all he did was change oil and drop in a couple tranny's (he pulls very heavy) Stealership says new brakes, tires and ball joints by previous owner before trading so that's a plus.
I think it's time for a "shopping for a used PSD" what to look for at a minimum sticky thread. Anybody feel like taking this on? If not, I will post a new thread and compile all of the good ideas to add. Any thoughts?
that is exactly what i thought of when i saw another side-question asked about this. i believe there is one on another site somewhere, but not here. go give it a shot, you are on to something.

Sorry to ask the side bar. I'm sure if I do more searching I'll come up with 100's of what to look for but I noticed it was Strokin who hit me with a reply and he seems to really know his stuff from what I've seen in other threads. I'm surfin for a 4" stainless exhaust for a truck I haven't even got yet. OH man PMS is setting in.
if you are set on stainless, expect to pay a little (well substantial is a better descriptor) more than an aluminized system. i have an aluminized system and to prevent rust on the exhaust and the stack splitter pipe, i painted the system with engine block ceramic paint. no rust and i wont have to pay the price of stainless to prevent rust. my exhaust isn't a show item until the chrome sticking out of the bed, and it blends in more under the truck. to keep a stainless system looking like it did when you pulled it out of the box, you need to periodically polish it, moreso with a lower grade steel T-409 opposed to the T-304 stainless which is almost twice the price of aluminized.
i recommend puredieselpower as the vendor and MBRP as the manufacturer for the exhaust, as Mark Romriell (MKO) does not sell stainless as i am aware of.
Hey that isn't as wallet draining as I thought it would be. The 99 is going to be my play/work mobile. I want to do gauges, exhaust, intake, chip and probably tranny mod. Thanks for the post
