67-72 contains 4 different front ends, and 73-79 has 3. I think it's hard to compare those broad groups. but thats a different thread :S

I guess that depends on what you mean by "different"?

Very true....I guess im just too picky i look at each them as different body styles, when even i know that isn't necessarily correct. i definitely look at the '67 diff from the '72 and the '73 diff from the '79. Anyways, i do agree with you. I love '70 front ends. but my alltime fav is '76/'77.

Just to clarify what's being said about cab size, I went out and did some measuring on both a 78 and a 68 cab. As the cowl/windshield area is the same from 67-79 I measured from the front of the cowl to the rear of the cab. The 68 is 56 1/2" and the 78 is 58 1/2". I also measured diagonally from the front bottom corner of the cowl to the upper rear top of the back of the roof. This measurement was the same for both cabs so it would appear the two inches added is from the beltline down. The boxes are the same length as well so it appears, scottie, the only adjustment to deal with will be the difference in frame width from the cab back.

Mike, Are the floor pans visiable for you to look at and measure? Since the mount points are the same from 65 to 79 and the chassis is 4" longer starting in 73, one must look down in that area to find the changes. Look at the back of the cab and you will see a flat piece welded underneith and adding the additional length to the cab and chassis.

A 65 cab and front clip can be lifted in one piece from the 65 chassis and set on a up to 79 chassis and the 6 mount points should line up and it be bolted down.

When you say 'four inches longer'', John, are you referring to overall length or wheelbase? All the brochures and info I have tell me the wheelbase for a longbox from 65-66 is 129", 67-72 is 131" and the 73-79 is 133". The rear frame rails are 32" center to center on 67-72 F100s and 34" from 73 on. I guess maybe you're thinking of the difference between your 66 and the 73 wheelbase?

Mike the chassis rails are longer starting in 73 and wider to the rear of the rear cab mounts. I didn't know we were addressing wheel base lengths and didn't mention any.

The widening of the rear (under the bed) makes for a wider rear track again making it the same as the front.

sorry

FordboyPete says that you can fudge the 4 inches out in an install. I have not done one yet, but I would like to. I have contended that you might have to bob off the ends of the rails. You will also have to adjust the mount points.

Hope this helps a little.

I am currently restoring my father 77 F250 Custom 2WD. He has passed and I learned to drive on it, so I thought it would be a good project for me and my boys. My cab is in really good shape except the floors. Nobody offers a good replacement, aside from the pans under your feet. But 67-72 offers a full floor replacement. If I am reading your explanation correctly, I should be able to buy the 67-72, and just weld a 4" extension plate after the rear mounts?

Appreciate any input on this subject, as I am not a seasoned body man!!

The 67-72 cab will bolt directly to the 77 frame using the original cab mount bolts. That's what I did only I used a f150 frame. you have to move the bed back about 2 inches to center the rear wheels and drill new hole to mount the bed.

I don't know which page I was on or or which form I was in before where there was conversation about the bezel for the 67 headlamp or headlights
I need a left-sided one and hoping to pay no more than around

Thank you for the information. Yes, I realize the 67-72 cab will bolt directly to the 77 frame. That is the reason for my question. I cannot get a 72-79 floor pan assembly. But I can get a 67-72 floor pan assembly. Seeing as they bolt up the same, and the extra is apparently added behind the rear cab bolts, I was curious if anyone knew for sure that the rest is dimensionally the same? Meaning, I could buy the 67 floor pan assembly, weld it under my 77 cab, and just add an extension behind the rear mount bolts. I'm not sure if there are other considerations as to why it may not work?
