Just curious, but I have a question on axles. I know the '73-79 axles are like 5" wider or so. However, if the '67-72 front clips and cabs fit over a '73-79 chassis, where is the width difference made up? Is the wheel tucked under the '67-72 fender more, or is the '67-72 hood & cab not as wide as '73-79?
Thanks for the reply, and you're right about my concern for wheels sticking out too far. I'm looking to replace my '79 Bronco tub with a bumpside, and I'm trying to make it look period correct as possible. Tires sticking out too far would not be period correct.
the front axle is the same width as the 67-72. the difference in width is in the rear end. the 67-72 is a few inches narrower the the 73-79. the front end of the 67-72 is the same width as the 73-79 axle and body.
That's what I thought, but wasn't sure. Makes sense if the body mounts are the same. Thanks Randy. So all I have to do now, is find a bumpside body and bed, since I already have a rear axle from '68.
I also have a '76 F250 front axle. So it seems possible that a late 70's F250 axle with the disc brakes would bolt up under a '67-72 F250. I know most years, and have owned quite a few, but the '67-72 is one generation I haven't had...... yet.
