Hard decision........

Well things are always changing and ther eis usually a point in your life when you have to make hard decisions.

Mine is no exception.

I had my 72 F250 XLT Ranger sence about 1997 and put it up for restoration in 2001. Sence than I have gotten the front clip off but that is it. Between not living where the truck is kept and have numerous other projects I have been unable to work on it. About 5 months ago I picked up a 68 F250 Base model rust free from California.

My delima is this. I really don't have the room for 3 trucks 2 cars and a utility trailor. I need to decide what to do with the 2 F250's. I'm thinking of continuing to part out the 72 and than swap over all the good parts & PS and disc brakes to the 68 and end up with a bumpside generation resto. I was originaly going to restore the 72 and when I came across the 68 I was going to drive it and use it and if I sold it no big deal. But now I need to decide what to do.

As of now the 72 needs a rad support and pass inner fender. The front bed support is rotted. The rest of the truck is decent (from Fla.). I haven't been able to take a good close look into what else it needs as of now. I do know it does have some bondo on at least 1 door.

The 68. It runs and drives. Except for a few dents its a straight truck. The bed was well used and has waves between the supports but the supports are not rotted. Again I took a quick loook under it and its pretty clean, if not cleaner than the 72 but I still haven't taken time to fully asses the undernieth.

I'd love to keep both and restore the 72 while driving the 68 but I need to make the decision.

I'm just taking input here.

The '68 has the good body, but less than desirable amenities.
The '72 has a poor body, but nice amenities such as power steering, power disc brakes. etc.

Correct? If so, here is my suggestion: Swap the '68 body onto the '72 frame. Keep the titles to both, and make sure the legal insured title is to the frame.
The front clip, cab and beds (if they are the same type) will all bolt right up.

In between swapping bodies, you will find it very easy to do maintenance such as doing a valve job, replacing exhaust, cleaning, etc.

Both bodies are good. I pretty much pointed out the bad parts of the 72 (rad support lower pass mount, Battery tray area and front lower x-member on bad.

I plan to do a full restore on the one I keep. All new bushings and other suspension parts will be replaced as well as motor rebuilt and all other things able to be rebuilt. I hope to have a basicly new bump side F250.

Is there any advantage of having the 72 frame over the 68 frame???
I also did a quick look on NADA(or Edmunds) and it looks as if the 68(with same options) is worth a bit more than the 72. Any input there??? I know its only worth what someone would pay for it but would someone want a 68 over a 72???

And Banjo forgot to tell you I got the package but its still all taped up. Yep been that buisy...... Just today I brought a load of scrap aluminum cans to recycling that have been sitting in the yard for almost 10 years.

As the owner of a 68, sold 69 with 843K miles I always liked the metal grill and style of older. For me the design and plastic material of newer trucks suck but then that's my opinion. That wider body trim alone distracts from the clean body lines as well the relocated front blinkers. I would add all the goodies to the 68. JMO.

.....=o&o>.....
