I have a 1965 Ford F350, My Problem is It will run smoth at Idle
But As I rev it up it dogs down at mid range. If I pull out the choke I can run up the RPMs. I changed the Fuel Pump,Checked for leaks(Vacume) Installed new Carb, Checked Timing,Gap,Coil,Compresion check,
#1-95Lbs to #6- 106Lbs and Held preasure. I was advised that this truck (6Cyl-240) has metal timing gears and chane so I ruled out streached timing? Pulled the Dist out gear looks fine I am at a loss.
I would sure be greatfull for some Ideas from someone on this I use it for snow removel and snow will be coming soon. Thanks In advance.

Absent fuel and ignition, the only thing left I can think of is the valve train. Your compression test ruled out "bad" valves per se, but the cam and lifters could be an issue. These are hard things to run down from here without "hearing" the engine.
I wouldn't rule out the metal timing gears and chain. Remember your old bicycle chain, you could bent in half sideways if you had it on long enough. Pull the timing cover and check your chain. If you've never changed it chances are it's over due. I had a 302 that you could pull so much slack out of you could actually reset the timing without taking the gears off.
Forgot to mention to change the rubber piece the chain rides on. Damn it I am having a brain fart. Umm Umm You know that thingy-a-bobber. Chain Guide thats it. Sorry about that.
That is the crazy thing about this problem the 6Cly sounds great at idle, No Taps Smooth as a kitten but does miss a little at the high rpm. can only be heard at the pipes. I think I will take off the cover and see if that timeing chane is loose. Thanks so much for the advice!

If I remember right the 240/300 6cyl, did not have a timing chain, but were fiber gear, (alum. aftermarket)on the cam, and steel gear on the crankshaft. When they went out, you walked. You say if you pull the choke out, it will run at higher speeds. Most of the time this is a fuel problem. You say it's new carb, and pump, I would take it you replaced the fuel filter. Another thing to check is fuel flow. Remove the line from the carb, and have someone crank the truck up, while you hold the line in a can. should pump a good, full stream , and about a pint of gas in less than a 45 sec. If not look for a crack in a rubber fuel line, a rusted hole in the steel line going to the tank, or a pluged fuel line.
The problem was fixed!!! after all the changes, Fuel Pump, Lines,
Clean fuel and new ingition system it was ( Carb) I had went to the local auto shop and picked a new one up but you know you will get a rebilt one. I took it back and thay where sure it was the carb to so thay ordered two more I after the second one did the same thay told me to try the third well dont you know it worked!. runs like a champ.
so beware sometimes its new but still could be bad.
Thanks For all your help.
