how much can I tow?

Thinking of buying a new 5th wheel, I have a 2014 F350 8ft box SRW 6.7 with 3.55 gears, 4x4 Crew Cab. GVWR is 11500 lbs. From what I've seen in brochures, this truck will pull up to 15900 lbs of 5th wheel. But I'd thought I better check anyway, the trailer is 10450 lbs UWR(unloaded weight rating), I know I'll need to add the weight of water, fishing equipment and snacks!
To be honest I'm just a little nervous and want to make sure its doable with a little to spare.
Thanks

Best thing to do is to get your empty truck on the scales and find out your true weights unloaded.

Then, looking at your door cert you have a listing of your front and rear axle weights.

So subtract the axle limits from your true weight from the scale. You have the remainder that you can add to the truck in the form of payload.

For a 5th wheel the king pin that goes in the bed of the truck becomes payload.

Don' t overload the rear axle and be sure you don't exceed the max load on the tires, whichever comes first.

Now a 15900 lb 5th wheel is well within the capabilities of the 6.7.

For trailers use the GVW as your running weight because you can get there pretty easy. And...20% of the GVW will on the most of them be the king pin wt.

So that should be a good start.

Ditto on what senix posted. You and I have the same truck. I pull a 2013, 40 foot Heartland Landmark Key Largo. The dry weight of the 5th Wheel is 13265 and I have loaded it full of water, propane, gear, etc. up to 14760. It has a max GVWR of 16250 and Pin weight of 2975. I even towed it up a 8% grade for 10+ miles at a steady 60mph in June. The truck never over heated. The cab had three adults and I also had my Honda 3000 generator and wood in the bed. I was impressed with the power of the truck with all that weight. I was probably right at the max with everything. Just remember just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Robert - does yours have the 3.55's also? I am assuming so with the 20" wheels, not sure though if there was an option of the 3.73's in a SRW? I recall back in 11 when I got mine they were 3.31's or 3.55's, I think the wheel size (18" or 20") had something to do with the gearing, but recall there still being a choice somewhere - whether t hat was 18" wheels or 20" wheels? Not sure now.

Google 2014 F350 towing specs, look at the ford.com pdf files and you'll see all the info on capacities.
