MAP mod *update*

I figured I would start a new thread on this one, if anyone read my last MAP sensor mod thread, they're more likely to read this one.

I have concluded that the extra power comes from the MAP sensor itself. I used the one out of my 1990 5.0L bronco. The PSD and Bronco ones are different, I put the PSD one in my 5.0L F150 and it would not start no matter what.
So I decided to try the Bronco sensor without the ghetto rigg q-tip bushing in it, and it made more power than the origional PSD MAP. The 2 are also different looking if you compare them side by side.

After determining the bronco map itself was the reason for the performance increase, I decided to put the Q-tip bushing back in the port to see if it made any difference. I think it did, but its hard to tell. Im keeping it in there anyways.
So if you have a Ford fuel injected gasoline vehicle with a MAP sensor, pull it off and try it out on your PSD. Id like to hear someone elses experience with this.

p.s. I just filled up so I am watching my mileage to see if there was a drastic change.

Just wondering how a map sensor from a gas rig (Reads vacuum) could work on a PSD (reads pressure). hmmm interesting tho.

I dont know either, Im puzzled.
But with the gas rig, the more vacuum it senses the less fuel it sends, and vice-versa. So at 0" vacuum there would be more fuel delivered than if it were reading 17" vacuum. Same (in theory) applies to if it were reading boost, instead of vacuum. Thats the only logical way I can see it, ignoring the fact that I think the sensor just senses and the computer makes the changes.
That said, the diesel map wont run my gas rig.....wheres the head scratching smiley?
edit: give me 2 seconds Ill go pull the PN off it.

Bronco MAP PN= E7EF9F479A1A
Under that there is another #, 9 H-25 D The '9' is above the port, the works across. This # is below the PN....no idea what it is, but posted it anyway.

wounder if its possible to use a map sensor off an SVO mustang, those 4 cylinder turbocharged stangs

Regardless, if it works it works, I'll have to match the #number upto some of the MAPS I have in the back

yeah if you have one give it a whirl.....I'd like to hear how it goes from someone else. My truck is stock, except I cut the cat, and now the Bronco MAP sensor. Do you have any mods?

i tried one in my 95 PSD from a 93 f-150 5.0 seemed like it had a bit more low end but missed/cutout above 2500. no smoke and a check engine light. the two sensors were physically the same other than the PSD one was gray and the other black. but you said yours was different so maybe thats the key. tried to check all the data with our scanner but lunch time was too short at work and since it wasn't running right i didn't want to play with it anymore.

Thats why I asked for the part #, I'm going to go search the local junkyard for one as the ones in my back field is not the same.

Nevermind, I checked your truck to a 90 bronco on aldata, according to that these viechles should have the same MAP sensor.

on a flat surface mine starts to miss around 3000rpm, which it never sees anyways. On a hill its more around 2800 rpm. I dont even take it up that high either. I had a feeling it probably wouldnt turn out to well for anyone else. It might work better for Dave, since his truck is closer to stock than tjbeggs'. All I know for sure is, for my driving style it definately made a difference.

OT, what did you guys use to shim your FPR. On Baz's site is only says a 3/16" spacer, is that the BB one?

3/16th BB, I just dropped a cotter pin in their and used the head of the pin, really anything will work if you got a fuel gauge to check your presures. Otherwise stick to the 3/16 BB

if your original map sensor was bad that would explain the hp increase when the bronco map is installed.... If i read the post above right and providing they are in fact both the same part number. On my truck i unplugged the boost line from the map and experienced low power. Plugged boost line back in and then unplugged elec connection and truck went into a very aggressive shifting pattern and yet still ran pretty good. The map controls more than just the fueling tables it also is involved in some of the tranny functions. I cooked a tranny due to a map boost line being blocked (faulty boost regulator) and the trans line pressure not getting raised like it should cusing the tc to slip and take everything else out with it. I had a few mods when i cooked the tranny but becareful when playing with map sensor, its possible to damage your tranny.
