Idler Pulley Replacement

The top idler pulley on my 1999 3.0 Ranger is making a terrible squeeling noise. Is the bolt that holds it a reverse thread ? Just dont want to break anything.

Once the bolt is loosened does the pulley just come off ?

Where is best place to get a replacement - NAPA, Autozone ???

Thanks in advance

Mine was regular threads and yes it comes right off. I got my replacement at CarQuest. The replacement pulley was just a tad smaller than the original but the tensioner still had travel left so it didn't hurt anything. Good luck

I recently replaced an idler pulley on my 3.8L Taurus and finally, surprisingly found a well made one, at reasonable cost, at of all places, AutoZone.

It's quality was far & away better than the OEM one, price was too!!!! I was pleasantly surprised. The effort of shopping around was worth it imo.

Make sure you orient it correctly & torque it up to the spec.
FWIW my 3.8L idler bolt had the normal "rigty tighty/lefty loosy" threads lol
