wants to start

ignition is in the off position and the truck is trying to start
77 f-150 4.9 300 v6

If you haven't messed with any of the electrical wires, then replace the starter.

Sounds like a bad ignition switch to me. Could also be the solenoid, or improper wiring at the solenoid.

I would not think it was the starter as it should only be able to get power through the solenoid, and if everything was working right only when you turn the key

Disconnect the wire plug on the S terminal and see if it still tries to start.

with the key off .....check for power at the S terminal plug that you just removed.

Or

It maybe be a Bad solenoid or faulty ignition switch

It seems like the solenoid on the starter is pitted and sticking.
