I am rebuilding a stock 85 460 4x4 4:10 gears 4-speed manual F-250 HD. Boring 0.030", heads ported, 2.19/1.76 stainless valves, roller valvetrain, and will be buying headers after breakin. It will be used mostly for light towing(less than 6000lbs.) I need help deciding which is best for my application. Xtreme 4x4 cams X4262H and X4270H and also Stealth or Performer intakes. Thanks in advance.
I built a 79 F-250 a while back with the x-270 and stealth, my customer pulls a 32ft gooseneck and was tired of getting outrun by the diesels, not only does it sound good, he doesnt stay behind the diesels now except when it comes time to refuel! It has 4:10's and a four speed and we are hunting him a zf conversion now for some overdrive
Thanks for the info, I was afraid I would lose a lot of torque with the x-270. I think the current carb is an edelbrock 600, should I go with an edelbrock 750?
Hi jam460 and welcom to FTI.
I found a Voodoo "Lunati" that is 207/213 Duration and .503/.535 lift. You might want to look at this cam it lookes like it will be a good lowend torque cam.
Bill
Thanks Bill. Do you know how far thru the rpm range the "Lunati" cam would outperform,in terms of torque, the x-270. Most of the time will be spent at low rpm's but occasionally I will have to learn the chevy guys.

This cam is listed as being good to 5000 rpm. I would do a couple of the outher things that will help you learn them cheby boys.
While you have the heads off do some port work and clean up the combuston chambers. This site has alot of info on porting you have to pay a 1 time $25.00 subscripton but it does have some of the best info. You are spending money to upgrade your valves if you don't do some porting you are wasting the money especialey on the exaust side. http://www.reincarnation-automotive.com/index.html
I would change out your timing set for one that dosen't have the factory retard in it. You were talking about headers, I would recomend the Thorley Try Y headers because you are going to be using this engin for street and towing. Thease headers will inprove your lowend torque and are better for street use.
Bill
I have had the heads ported with some good gains in exhaust and intake flow. I also am planning on a nonretarded timing set. I was not sure which headers to get, thanks for the info. Are the Try Y headers that much better for low end grunt?

I have done a lot of reading on diferant sites. I have found that large tube headers are great for high rpm but may hurt low rpm torque. You indicated you would be using this truck on the street and for towing all at low to mid range rpm.
I am using the thorleys on my motor home project you might say I am voting with my check book You will also want to run a cross over pipe or X pipe to help low end torque. Banks headers are the try y desine and they make some big clames over stock. I feel I am doing a "SUPER BANKS PACKEGE" my self. Beter intake, carb, ported heads biger valves better cam Try Y headers. I feel I am doing the whole thing,Intake better flow inside and better exaust.
