Rear Axle ????

Ok guys,
Im looking to figure out what rear axle i have.I know i have the 4.10 LS axle, but is it a sterling,dana60,etc,etc.
I know i need the limited slip additive.
80-90,75-140,85-140??????
I think it needs to be synthetic, right?
I need to change out all my Axle seals,so i figured might as well change the fluid too.
Any help would be great.
Thanks.

IIRC if its DRW its a Dana 80. If it SRW is a Sterling 10.5. For the weight of fluid i would go with ford owners manuel.

for the dually rear, it is a Dana 80, with 75w-140 fluid in it. about 5 quarts if i remember right. SRW trucks have a Sterling 10.25, not 10.5

It used to be SAE 75W-140 High Performance Rear Axle Lubricant F1TZ-19580-B but I think Ford has a service bulletin (TSB) for 75-90W full synthetic. The additive is Friction Modifier C8AZ-19B546-A.

On edit: I found the Motorcraft recommendation...here is the link:

Check your books again Kris, it's a 10.5 Sterling on the SRW.

In my truck im using a ford 10.25 ring and pinion. I guess the 10.5 and 10.25 have closely related parts.

What is the difference besides one being SRW and the other DRW? I am assuming one being 4.10 gears and the other 3.73???

new truck has a 10.5 but yes a 10.25 r&p work. i think the only difference is the bearings the carrier rides in. thus obs/nbs can all use the same r&p.

i used royal purple synthetic. already had the friction modifier in it. (although i have an open diff )

have a good day

I think he was asking why the DRW have the dana 80 and the SRW has the sterling or other.

I bought the 75-90 mobil 1 synthetic for the rear. And the additive. When i checked it before, the fliud was thin.So ill but the same back in.

Right, I know what SRW and DRW means I was talking about the difference between either trucks rear axles. Gearing? Is it possible to put 3.73 gears in a DRW? How is the gas mileage effeted between those two gearing ratios?
