I have a 2002 Ford Ranger. I just had installed Goodyear 225/70/15 tires. While before I noticed a vibration at 70mph I atrributed that to old tires as they did need replacing very badly.
After the new tires I'm getting a vibration at all speeds over 50 mph. I've had the tires balanced twice with no change other than they had a little too much air in them so I reduced the air pressure and it helped but did not eliminate the vibration.
The steering wheel doesn't vibrate back and forth left to right but it's more of an up and down vibration as best as I can tell. IT seems worse at certain speeds but present at most speeds over 50mph.
The tire dealer offered the replace the tires with Cooper tires. Could it be anything other than the tires? It feels like a vibration just like you would have with out of balance tires. No noise associated with it.
I like the suspension check ideas, maybe an alignment check out too.
If all turns out ok & seeing as how things got worse after the new tires were installed, have the roundness of the new tires checked out & check the mounting/match marks of the tire/wheel combination, as well as lateral & radial runout on the wheels.
There are roundness & weight marks on the tire & wheel, that correspond to high & low spots & heavy & light spots, that when ignored during mounting, can exacerbate a problem, but when properly matched up at mounting, can ease or eliminate some problems.
Also have them check the tires for misaligned belts or bad splices.
So look for out of round tires, misaligned belts or bad splices & for bent wheels, or wheels with exessive runout & if they oriented the tire/wheel properly during mounting.
I've got the same thing going on right now. I'm taking it in this week to have the wheel bearings checked. It's only really noticible at speeds over 55mph. Anyone know what a wheel bearing job runs? $$ wise?
I'll keep an eye on this thread and update my findings as well.
I just replaced a Goodyear tire of the same size for the same problem. One tire was out of round just like PawPaw said. Try using the spare and swapping tires one at a time.
Good luck
I chased the problem for a month off and on using three different shops.
