In an effort to remove the rust from the cab area... I have reached this problem spot with the two bolts that hold the clips that provide support for the gas tank, which also seem to serve as a cab to frame bolts.
Removal ofcorse so I can grind, paint and replace. However, the usual technique of removing the nut and pulling the bolt though the hole seems to not work as it seems like the rubber is threaded, and hammering doesn't seem to help. Is there a technquie to get these suckers out?
Actually you're right. I was assuming that the rubber pad was threaded and that much hammering would cause damage, given that the sledge I was using was having a simple bounching effect. But disocered on the passanger side bolt that it just passed though. Turns out that the tar like material and caught around the bolt, giving the illusion of thread.
Though, my solution was a jack and a lenth of wood. The force required raised the truck up two inches, and even then had to be twisted free.
I know you got your bolts out, but the method I used was an impact wrench and liquid wrench. About 10 minutes a bolt, but they came right out. I've been using air tools for a while now and don't understand how I ever worked on a car/truck without them
