I need to replace the cab mount bolts and bushings on my 64 f100. It doesn't appear to be a huge job but I'm wondering if I'll have to remove the seat and/or gas tank or if I can access all four bolts by just rolling back the floor mat.
Tank comes out, seat first so the tank clears. Well worth the effort and I'd replace the core support bushings as well. I do the rear ones first, then the front then the core support. Be ready for stuck and rusted bolts.
A good trick for removing them rusty bolts.
1. Wire brush exposed threads under truck really good.
2. Soak the nut in your favorite penetrating oil.
3. Using and impact and a strong helper on the wrench, loosen the nut a bit, then retighten.
4. Repeat until nut comes off.
5. If this doesn't work (but it should) just cut off the nut since new bolts are usually supplied in the kit anyway.
Also check out your lower tank brackets while out of the truck. Most are rusted under the rubber they were dipped in. I sandblasted, primered, and dipped them in that Plasti-Dip found in most hardware stores for tool handles.
