i got a 90 f350 4x4 diesel and since i got it the rear anti lock light stays on and never goes off....im thinking the abs computer thing...any ideas as to why it stays on????and the brakes seem to work jsut fine... thanks
My 93 supercab does the same thing. When I took it to the dealer to find out why, they said they would have to replace the ABS switch in back to get it to clear, THE STUPID PART IS ALMOST $400. I have been driving with the light on ever since with no problems.
I just had this happen to my truck, in addition to my ASB light staying on, my service light came on and my overdrive button on my shifter kept blinking "off" . I took it in to my mechainic and he said it was my back right speed sensor. He replced it and now all is great. I did noticed that my brakes felt different before he replaced that sensor.
Cost: $65.00 labor , $10.40 part.
Just wanted to add I have a 2000 F-250

Guys, the 90 has a much different (and more primitive) ABS system than does a 93 or (especially) a 2000. Whatever fixed (or didn't) yours may not be relevent on this old system.
My service docs only go back to 92 on the F-series, but the system is probably the same. "Flash Codes" can be pulled from these systems to aid in the diagnosis.
ill see what i can do i have a abs switch so i will try that and go from there..and what are the flash codes?? is that when u turn the ignition on and off a few times and the light in the dash blinks so many times and the blinks mean a code?? ..thanks
If the ABS light is on that means that you don't have ABS function, your normal service brakes are working just fine. There are a number of things that could cause the light to come on, not just the switch. The codes will help a little, but the older systems aren't as "connected" as the OBD II systems that can just tell you what is wrong.
I have a 96 Full Size Bronco and the dealership tried to bring up the flash codes on mine and nothing happened. My light is still on full time and has been for about a year now.
Any Suggestions?
