First a bit of rambling, I have a '66 F-100 that I bought nine years ago while still in High School, I bought it from an older gentleman who had left it sitting in his back yard for over 10 years. This truck cost me $700 at the time.
I put in a new battery, some tires and changed the oil, then it started right up!! Then I drove it for the next three years with only minor problems, I added an AC unit, because it gets really hot in Texas, and PS.
Then I joined the Army in 1996, and had to park my truck, I am currently stationed in Germany, three months ago while home on leave I took it for a drive, after some tune up work, even got a ticket for expired tags(I knew they were expired but I could not help myslef!!). I love that old truck. While driving I noticed the rubber floor mat was sagging, and after lifting it up found that most of the floor was rusted out. I will be moving back to Texas in a few weeks and plan to pull my truck out of the barn, and spend as much time and money on it as I can. My Question for now, would it be better to try to fabricate a new floor myslef, or should I try to buy a new one(does anyone even make a replacement)? Any help would be greatly apreciated. By the way I only recently found this site, and think that it is the greatest!!
Well then welcome to the site.....In my opinion it would be easier to buy the floor pans already made...Unless you have the equipment and are handy doing metal work. You can buy them from this website, just click on online store in the top right hand corner and do a search for floor pans. But there are a few companys that do make them http://dennis-carpenter.com/
and a few others out there. I replaced mine with the pre made ones, and I tell you it was pretty easy if you are handy with a mig welder. I bought my mig welder from walmart, it did the job, and looks pretty good. Well again that is my opinion and good luck....Have a nic day
MobleyT: Where are you stationed in Germany, and where are you going back to Texas? I left Ft Hood in '92 and went to Wiesbaden. I left my '66 with my Dad in Tacoma, Wa, and the windshield seal let water into the cab, which rusted out the floor pans. Other than that, my truck has no rot.
Terry, you have options, since the pans are the same from 65 to 79 you can do as I am in the middle of. I cut and spot weld drilled the pan from a 73 and and am welding it in my 66. The replacement pans are a good idea too.
