In the process of wirebrushing I managed to damage this rubber boot before I knew it chould be detached and moved.

Located on the driver's side floor, there is a long shaft connected to the brake pedal, which goes though the cab floor, and oval rubber boot is there as well. What is this thing called. I presume it's to protect the cab from rock / water / debree from the road, while allowing the shaft free play.

Are you talking about the clutch rod to floor seal that is premodeled with a metal insert in it?

I'll have to double check, I was pretty sure it was brake, but I could be wrong. My gas peddal is in the wash presently.

But what you describe is accurate. there is a metal insert covered with a rubber boot.

leonharu is right. The clutch rod comes out on the right side of the clutch/brake pedal assembly and goes through the floor. The rod from the brake pedal to the master cylinder goes through the firewall.

I stand corrected. While it applying the brake clearly claused this shaft to move, applying the clutch causes this shaft to move more, much more, clearly the confusion based on both brake and clutch being placed on the same shaft.

Ok...

What do you call that rubber boot that is on the cab floor clearly designed to protect the driver from flying rocks, while allowing motion of this clutch pedal rod actuation unit.

"clutch pedal rod cab floor flying rock tward crotch rubber buffer?"
"CPRCFFRTCRB?"

i.e. how would I find this in a catalog?

The name of the part depends on whose catalog you look it up in. I just checked my Auto Krafters catalog. While the name is somewhat misleading, they call it a "clutch pedal to floor seal". The part number is C5TZ-7A533A, and the price is $24.95. If you don't have their catalog, they can be reached online at www.autokrafters.com

thanks much... your quoted syntax is superior to mine
C5TZ-7A533A clearly listed, just not in any of my hard copy catalogs.
