400 radiator in i6 truck, ever done it?
hey y'all,
I picked up a radiator at the junkyard today for a temp until i can get home and pick up my brand new 4 core thats at my house in mi.
i'm wondering if anyone has used one of these radiators w/the i6, because the outlet is on the opposite side. possibly a fabricated hose or inverted water pump? any thoughts? thanks.

I used a flex hose on the top. I used a stock 300 hose on the engine end, and a stock 400 hose on the lower radiator end. I rotated them to meet each other next to the crossmember in front of the engine, and used an inline radiator heater to connect the two. The heater has 2 different sizes to match the 2 different hoses. I bought all of this at my local Bumper-to-bumper, and it was all in stock. This is in my 79 bronco 4x4(signature) and it's been running fine. So if your's is 80 or newer, or a 70's 2wd, then I guess your gonna have to wing it. But atleast you know it can be done. Good luck.
PS:My radiator support is the 400 size, not the stock 300 size. It may mount up differently, or not at all.

I put a 460 radiator in mine. I think they are the same radiator they used on 400s. I used a flex hose for both top and bottom. The top was a no brainer 12". For the bottom I actually found a flex hose with a taper. I cant remember the diameter of the bottom hose on each end but something tells me 1 1/4 on the water pump side and 1 1 1/2 on the radiator and it was about 14" long. Hope that helps

thank'y for the suggestion.. i believe the 460 radiator is a bit longer, so the trans line would have had to be modified (if its an auto).. i got it. i bought the lower hose for the 400 , and used a coupler to hook it to the i6 hose.. then i took a piece of old hose to prevent rubbing on the oil pan or trans lines... seems to be working, the temp barely makes it into the normal range now... thank's again guys

Yep, stock 352 V8 rad in my 66 F-250, my first 66 I had the rad shop move the top over and change the size, minimal cost, my current one, I just used a flex hose and a sizing bushing, all good, never ever gets hot, even pulling the mtns up here with a 2000# trailer and 4500# tractor!! and in 100 degree heat! I Love my 300!
