Slash And Burn

Ford to CUT 4th quarter production by 21% to alleviate bloated SUV/TRUCK inventories. I think EVERY auto mfg. today has bloated truck/SUV inventories. Gas at $3+ has finally wreaked havoc on our America's obsession with owning the latest "toy." 35% of new F-150 owners stated they bought it because its cool and will NOT use it for work.

But the residual trade in value of used f150's should go up with less new inventory sinking into the tarmac at the dealerships. Good news for those wishing to unload their f150 gas hogs. Too bad ford doesn't have a smaller more fuel efficient f100 to sell to those customers. More missed opportunities by ford.

Used car sales will be prety good. If people really hate their gas hog that much than they should have got the V6. Thats why I got it. It still has power. I just hauled 1200lbs. in the back of mine the other day and it did great, better than my dads 1500 chevy that has a 350.

No kiddin. Ford needs to drop the ranger and make it a little bigger and post an f100 badge on the side. Offer it in a crew cab with a v6 or 4.6 v8. That would boost lost sales to jap companies from those people who go and buy "cars" i mean jap trucks like the tacoma. Ford would then continue to win the best selling crown with the f-series. Next year they are going to get hit hard with the new(ugly) chebbie and "ford" i mean super duty copier sierra. They are going to need all the help they can get.

Talking

I still like the little ranger fx4's , they are great for trails. If they just added something new like an F100 that is more the size of a tacoma it would really help sales.

That was then. What we are talking about today is a mid-sized, v8 powered truck in ford's line-up. Something bigger then the current Ranger, but a bit smaller then the ever increasing size of the f150. A mid - sized truck works well for truck buyers as a daily driver / weekend hauler. For many of us the current f150 is just too large and expensive to drive day to day. And for ford truck buyers that really need a heavy hitter, you have the f250 and f350. The reason were floating the f100 name again is because ford will not make something that takes away sales numbers from the "f-series".

Yes, it would. It is a GREAT little truck. I even got to test drive one. More than enough adequate power for a "mini-F-150".

-Matt

P.S. Moving this thread to the General Automotive Discussion since it is not a 2004+ F-150 specific topic.

I like my Ranger's size and the 4.0L has great power. I only wish it was a extended cab for more leg room. The standard cab is a little short for 6'4" people, but then so is the reg cab in my 78 F250.

I don't think Ford will drop the Ranger, or make it larger- The Ranger/Bseries is the only compact truck still on the market. Everybody else has gone to mid sized.

The ranger could most definetly use an update to bring it into this century, its getting very old and very dated. I would think making it slightly bigger would do good, a little more cab room, little more power, but not as big as the frontier/tacos. As big as you can make it and still have the 4 banger version move it around without too much trouble, is what i'm getting at.

A friend of mine has a SCab F-150 that gets 14 MPG....and it's in fine running shape.

Why make v8 Rangers that will get similar MPGs?

I pick on the 3.slow Rangers for getting 4 cylinderesque power with v10esque MPGs as it is...

Oh yeah, the bolded part....a Sport Trac. As lousy as Ford product "planning" is these days, they beat you to that one.

I disagree that SUV/truck inventories will push used truck prices/sales UP. I believe they will severely push them DOWN. Dealers don't like stagnant inventories, so they will start reducing prices on new vehicles until they sell so they can get more profitable inventory. At some point those prices will be down to the same level as a 1- or 2-year-old vehicle. If you had $30k to drop on a truck, which are you going to buy, the 1- or 2-year-old truck with its cherry popped, or a brand new one? And all that just trickles down to the older and older trucks.
