Question Hidden Deck Fasteners

I going to be replacing my treated wood deck with a 5/4 composite deck surface and I'd like to use one of the many new "hidden deck fastening methods". Has anyone here ever used on of these methods and what do you think about them?

I have never used them in the many (7-10) decks I've built but have been on a couple of composite decks and them seem very nice. The only bad I've heard is they are very slippery when wet or snow covered, not that you live where there is snow or that you'd be using the deck in the winter if you did live where there is snow. I generally always go with the treated lumber for the frame work and deck with cedar. Cedar also can be slippery, I guess its just how a person walks on it and when. Good luck.

I used them on my aunts deck with composite decking(Ultradeck Solid) The ones we used are called "Tiger Claw". I should have used them on my cedar deck.

Did my own version 2 decks ago. All I did was buy 1.5" x1.5" x 1/8" aluminum angle and screw it to the side of each joist at the top to act as a flange to screw the deck boards down from the under side. It worked out well, and it had a neat look to it if you were the type of person to notice there was no screw heads on the deck. 98% of people didn't notice a thing. If I were going to do it that way again, I'd paint the top of the aluminum angle brown to hide it a bit. When the sun was at the right angle it was very easillly noticed through teh seams.

I used Deckmaster, and was really satisfied with them. McFeeley's on the web carries them.

Ipe is very, very hard. I'm guessing they destroyed the fasteners trying to get them into the ipe.

its more the woods fault than the fasteners, the wood shrank and popped out, I think the "clips" were large enough to secure the wood during expansion/contraction

I would likely use the new and improved "GYAUI" method...

"Get Your A** Underneath It"

Also known as "SCREW UPWARDS". Lag bolts ought to do the job...
