Looking at putting a camper shell on my 77 F150 and wanted to see if anyone had pics of their truck and also where they got them and what brands. maybe someone even has one for sell - I live in So California.
Check the camper on my '78 F100 truck. I am the third owner, and I believe the shell was purchased (at the dealer place?) by the first owner. It is really nice to be able to lock your belongings in the shell, as well as being able to use it for camping trips and such. Raul
Mine is original as well.
It is the deluxe topper by Ford.
If you look at the first few pics.....and then the last one in the album you should notice the area on the topper I painted silver.
I did this to make the transition from cab to topper look a lot nicer.
I get tons of comments about this, especially if I am on vacation pulling my trailer which I painted to match the truck
I see you also have the Jade Green interior in your truck. In my visits to junkyards in North Texas (plentiful and large, as large as 50 acres each) I have not run (yet) into a truck with interior trim/parts in that color. Fortunately the interior in mine is in excellent shape. I have been, however looking for a pair of door panels to save for the future (as mine already have a couple of small cracks and a couple of SS screws on their bottoms). I guess I'll have to get whatever color I find and them dye/paint them jade green.
By the way, I really like the area you painted in the topper (shell) with the truck's body color. I'll ask my brother (he paints cars) in the future to do the same for mine. Interestingly, my truck has the colors opposite to yours (white truck and grey topper).
Please take a look at my gallery and also see the classifieds under Campers and you will see mine. You can't miss it. It's an orange 73 F100 with a white cap/topper/camper.
Take a look at my gallery, and you will see the Ford camper shell mounted on my 76 F350 supercab. This shell was ordered with the truck, and came mounted on the truck, from the factory. I'm not sure who made them for Ford. On my build sheet, as well as the original dealer's order, the camper shell was identified as a "White Pickup Box Cover Deluxe" option, and it cost $577.30 when I ordered the truck on 1/19/76.
Nice work - on the Ford canopies. They are premium/hard to find. The cab rear window and the canopy front window are the same, and will interchange. It's easy to 'glas interior lights onto the interior. I etched the area where I installed lights first with acetone (just a wipe-down) before I installed the lights. The rear light turns on when the topper door is lifted and the front has a switch at the light.
I'm not sure I understand your comments re. lighting the camper shell. Mine came with an interior light, with a switch just inside the left rear pillar. I did not realize the front glass in the "shell" was the same as the rear glass in the cab.
Sounds like a neat setup you've done for the lights. I've had problems keeping the locks/***** for the sliding side windows glued to the glass. I have one in the glove box now that needs to be re-installed.
