Interior Repaint/Recolor
Even though I've already pretty much figured on having to replace all of the carpet in the cab. What I don't really know anything about at all. Is how to go about changing the color of my door panels, dash pad, head liner & hopefully the vinyl portions of my seats.
So, I'm hoping that there's a few people out there, who have had some experience in this particular area that can help me to find the best ways to accomplish this type of a project.
Although any type of assistance would be gratefully accepted and sincerely appreciated. Here's a few questions that I would hope to find answers for.
1.) What's the best method of surface preparation to use prior to repainting the door panels & dash pad?
2.) What's the best type of paint to use on the plastic/rubber door panels & dash pad?
3.) Are there any surface preparation products available that will help the paint to adhere better?
4.) Are there any products available out there for changing the color of vinyl?
F.Y.I.
The original base color of my cab interior is a medium brown and the color change I am considering is to maroon or burgundy.
Many thanks in advance to those who choose to respond to this inquiry.

1.) What's the best method of surface preparation to use prior to repainting the door panels & dash pad?
I have always used Lacquer Thinner first.
Plastic & vinyl require two different products
For The Vinyl I use Vinyl prep
For the Plastic I use Plastic prep
2.) What's the best type of paint to use on the plastic/rubber door panels & dash pad?
What rubber on the door panels ?
Use Vinyl dye on all the interior parts.
The Paint they sell is usually crap from sitting on the shelf for so long.
3.) Are there any surface preparation products available that will help the paint to adhere better?
See above , Plastic Prep & Vinyl Prep with lacquer thinner to clean it up first
4.) Are there any products available out there for changing the color of vinyl?
Vinyl dye and all the other preparation products can be purchased at a Body shop supplies/Paint store.
To paint the metal part of the dash you will require colour matching lacquer
as well
For application of the product, I use the PREVAL painting system as it can handle numerous applications.
This too can be purchased at the Paint & Autobody supply store so everything can be mixed to match all at one place
Since my Mustang restoration days of renewing at least 8 complete interiors.
I have replied to all these topics that come by the 73-79 forum but the info is readliy available on the Appearance Forum because this topic applies to ALL year trucks.

One other topic that I forgot to ask about is what's the best product available for removing a previous coat of paint on the plastic door panels? I didn't even really notice it until I removed the door panels. I guess some former owner must have done that! I believe that it would be a good idea to remove all of that paint prior to repainting them again, Right?
Thanks for the "411" Mil1ion,
As a new user I'm not exactly familiar enough with what's available on this web site or even experienced enough yet to even know where to look for the info that I need. However, I will gladly take your advice & check the appearance section for additional info on the repaint project I have in mind.
The lacquer thinner is also a paint remover if you apply it for a long enough period.
Here's the PREVAL system.

If you buy extra jars and pickup tubes you can go back and forth between jobs without having to clean up.
ie: Paint to Dye just by putting the sprayer and correct pickup tube on the related jar
