9" or D60?

I have both. The 9" has a 3.50 gear and the D60 has a 3.54 gear. I am going to be getting a locker and was curious about the strenght of the two? Also, any suggestions on the differential?

The D60, it is a lot easier to change the axle shaft if you break it while using the locker, it is easier to run 16.50 rims, and you can run bigger tires with a load. If you are running 33s or smaller on a 1/2 ton truck, that sees mostly street use then I probably would stick with the 9 inch.

I am using it as a Street/Strip application. I have a pretty hot 460 with a C6 and street tires.

For street strip use I would use the 9 inch axle. It's lighter and very strong. Plus a very large percentage of drag cars run 9 inch rear axles.

Check this site out for a write up on the two different axles. You will find the 9 inch holds it's own very well against the D60 axle. http://performanceunlimited.com/illu...ons/gears.html

Thanks for the replies, I am going to use the 9" along with a Detroit Locker. I have 4 different 9" rears all with 31 spline.

I would have gone with the D60. It's only 70lbs heavier....and has 35 spline axles, 1/2" thick axle tubes, 1.5" axle shafts, and bigger bearings.
