I have a 250 gallon trailer/tank. I would do something like that if it wouldnt cost so much to drive up there and back- not to mention how much it would cost to FILL THE TANKS!!

I just love the thought of not supporting big oil companies and instead helping our farmers. Hopefully you'll have more fill-up options
soon. Man...that Texas is one BIG state!!

I can get B5 not too far from me but will the B5 have any benefits? Everything I've seen you guys write about is B20 and up. Just wondering if its worth the 40-60minute round trip ride.

If the article is right, B2 will suffice. However, does anyone know if the new ULSD meets the same spec as what the old stuff was supposed to?

I run B20 in the semi, and B25 in my PSD, both have not lost any power, run quieter and increased the fuel economy. for proof on the Semi I just got my bonus check for the last quarter (which was the first quarter I started running it in the semi) the company average is 6.52, the average in my truck is 6.8, I looked up previous quarters in the truck 5.3, 5.4 and 5.6 so I don't know why some people are saying a lose of fuel economy with it. In my F250 it seems to be averaging about 1-2mpg better but since I don't write it down for htat truck I can't verify it.

What is B20 or B25? Isn't it 20 and 25% Biodiesel respectively, mixed with regular diesel? What if your diesel component is good or bad? Will it have a negative effect on the mpg if it is bad? Sure. Will it have a positive effect on mpg if it is good? Of course.

To illustrate, I fill up at Woodmans diesel which is cheaper than others. When I fill up, it is usually with the needle on empty and it fills up to about what spec is give or take a gallon. On a tank where I normally get 600 miles, it now gets 550 at best. Ok, run it down and fill up with what you normally fill up. Now you get over 600. Change back to Woodmans and you get 530, fill up with your usual stuff and you get 600+. What does that mean? It means the fuel is not the greatest. Ok. Say you take 8 gals of that "not so good stuff" and mix it with 2 gals of B100. What do you have? 10 gals of B20. Now, if the mileage drops, do you say it is the biodiesel that is bad? IMO, speaking about gaining or losing mileage is moot if you cannot control the diesel portion because you are talking apples and oranges. I lost mileage on B40. How did I know? I mixed B100 with regular diesel and the mileage decreases. That test keeps the diesel constant. I have gotten diesel that gives me 30 mpg on my car. Switch to a different station and you might get say 28 on average.

The most important fact is that biodiesel sellers will even admit that you might lose some mileage. If you were selling a fuel, would you admit that if it were not true? If it doesn't kill some mileage, how is that possible when you have lower btu for biodiesel? Now B2 you might not notice a thing since it is so small. B20 and I think you would. B40 you definately would if it were so. This is keeping all things constant.

ok on the F250 I have fueled at teh same station for 5 yrs (unless I am away from home of coarse) I started brewing my own biodiesel, I would fill it with 15 gallons of regular diesel from the same place I have bought fuel at for 5 yrs and added 5 gallons of Bio I now have B25 and my mileage increased. Now since I have bought the same base fuel from the same place for a long time and it hasn't changed my fuel economy in all this time am I too assume that exactly the same time I started adding Bio they started getting in better quality fuel? On the Semi hve been buying fuel from the same station for 3 yrs (do occasional buy other places depending but this is a dedicated run so always traveling the same road) They added a couple pumps with B20 so decided since it was working so well in my F250 to try it iin the semi. Same station different tank, guess they are just mixing it with better quality dino diesel.

Fair enough. If you take the B0 and add B100 and make B20 and get better mileage then it is the biodiesel. What I am curious about is how it does it with lower BTU?

I don't know how it does it either. Perhaps the cetane rating is changed so more energy goes into pushing the piston with smoother flame front from controlled compustion. But otherwise nothing comes free. Jim

Well...judging from this poll it looks like everyone is making an effort to
use bio diesel whenever possible. Cool! Keep spreading the word!! My next door neighbor farmer, with his diesel tractor, wasn't aware of it...he is now!
