2000 f350

A long time friend of the family is wanting to sell his 2000 f350 regular cab (powerstroke) 73,000 miles and a '95 coachman 20' 5th wheel camping trailer for $20,000. The truck is in excellent shape very light towing duty mostly driven to and from work and on weekend trips.

Here are my concerns:

1. I don't know very much about diesels

2. The truck has to crank just a little bit longer to start than any other vehicle I have ever owned. Although this may be normal for a diesel this will be the first one I have ever owned

3. When he first bought the truck for the first few oil changes he used Valvoline Durablend. Is this ok? I don't think Durablend is rated for diesel engines is it?

4. Is there any problem areas with the 2000 7.3 that I need to take a look at.

Other than my above concerns the truck is an absolute cherry.

The PSD needs to "crank" to build up oil pressure for the injectors . But cranking time does vary depending on battery condition, oil & viscosity used and GP condtition if it is in colder weather.
Val Durablend--uuhhh I can't say if it hert anything, but i'd use Rotella 5w-40 Syn and a wix, Motor crap.
Problem areas. Umm Cam senors, I have a buddy with a 95 and he had 3 IDM's. But he is the only one that seems to burn them out not other PSD's. If is is a 4R100(auto trans) make sure it was serviced every 30K miles.

Welcome to FTE.
That sounds like a good deal. You can't buy the truck alone for that price anymore, let alone having it come with a trailer as well.

Sounds like a screaming deal to me if the trailer and pickup are in good shape. It is well know that 2000 model was the very best year for the 7.3 ever. And because I was smart enough to buy one doesn't make me biased.
