Ah, I thought as much, but I just didn't want to jump to conclusions.

Sorry, I know this is not a tuner thread but since the topic has obviously moved that direction...

DP-Tuner seems to have more of an ala carte setup. Are you just recommending the F5 1-16 Position Chip? If so what files would you recommend (it looks like if you buy all of them together you’re already over $900!)? Is there a major advantage for the XCAL2? What’s up with custom programs? I realize I could contact them directly but since its in his best interest to sell me the most expensive setup I’d rather ask here in hopes that someone has already evaluated these options.

How much difference is there between a DP-Tuner and one that can be readily bought used like Superchips or Hypertech? Do used DP-Tuner chips ever show up? Is there any reason not to buy used?

And how effective are the systems that offer in cab monitors and claim to offer dyno features and can be used in place of additional gauges.

Firstly, I would recommend you talk to him to figure out what you want. I did and got my PCM flashed by him for $75 since I don't do much besides tow. You don't have to buy them all. Just the one or two or however many you need. He is an honest guy so he will not try sell you stuff you don't need.

Xcal is great for you to upload and download any 3 programs at a time. Clear codes and what not. However, you can get a cheaper code reader if you want. You might not need all the gee-whiz stuff on it. I asked Jody and he told me that since I had a code reader and other stuff "I'd get it if it were me but I use it way more than you would." Can't get more honest than that. Xcal has it's own programs. Jody buys the unit from them without any programs and inserts his own.

Jody or Brian don't seem to do that softa stuff. Rest assured.

All chips will show up. Once you take the strip off and insert the interface, they can tell. If you flash the PCM, they can tell how often it has been flashed. If you are that worried, get Jody to sell you a core PCM and flash that one or do whatever you want so that your original PCM is virginal. You don't want to buy used because you don't know what tune he did. I had 2 possibilities for PCMs in my truck.

In cab monitors are fine. How would they do a dyno feature without a dyno and make it accurate? I'd get a simple set of gauges. That way if one fails, I replace that one instead of the whole display if that fails.
