Steering Column removal

I have a 1986 Ford F-250 that I just purchased. The gentleman before me rigged up a way to start this truck for some reason for another. He is missing all the parts inside the steering column that connects the key switch to the actuator bar. So to start this truck I have to just push the acutator bar in and the truck starts. I want to make this thing work like it is supposed to though. I have another truck that I can take parts off of that is identical to this one. So I was trying to remove the entire housing just below the column that has the key switch in it but right before the shift lever. I CANNOT get this thing removed to save my life. I see no other way to fix this problem except to remove this part of the column and trade them out in the two trucks. There is a link in the steering linkage that keeps this part of the column from coming off and I was wondering if anyone has ever done this before and has a trick for taking this link out. Thanks for the advice.
