Just got back from my monster trip. 3800 mi. round trip with a 20' enclosed trailer and a 89 Mustang Saleen inside. Truck got 12-13 mpg at 67mph. I was quite pleased. Now to the issue at hand.
My service engine soon light came on about 3 hours into my drive. When I got to my location it just went out. It never came back on again until I was about 1 hour from being home. I went to the local parts shop and got the computer read. P1211 which said is a manufacturer specific code and P1247 (i think) which was WASTE GATE NOT DETECTED. DO you guys have any idea what is up with these codes and if it is no big deal how do I clear them out.
I do have a chip in the truck but this is the first I have seen of the light. The truck is at 144000 miles.
Any chip will throw a code relating to wastegate, to be honest it, nothing to worry about. Alot of times, it's because the boost pressure is rising a little to fast for the PCM and MAP sensor to keep up with it. As a result, the PCM doesn't know what's going on, so it throws a code. You can put in a boost pressure relief valve and/or boost regulat that will keep the SES from coming on. Do a search and you'll see what I'm talking about. Take care.
I looked at the overboost regulator (aka MAP sensor regulator) ,the one from ITP Diesel and i'll probably go with that. However, in one of the threads it talks about the computer clearing it self out after a while of not seeing the overboost problem. My light is still on and i'm not driving agressive, nor do I have the trailer attached anymore. It's been about a week. Do I need to go to the dealer to get the code cleared or is that somethign I can do?
THanks again
You can clear it, but it'll only come back. It keeps happening to me whenever I tune up with a tuner I can't speak of now. I cleared the code with my SCT, but as soon as I started driving again, it was back. When I tune up with my SCT though, it NEVER throws a code about the wastegate or anything. So the SES issue varies from chip to chip.
