V code, B code Bilstein shock numbers?

Ok, I tried to find some "take offs" at the local 4x4 shops without any luck, so I bit the bullet and ordered new springs all the way around for my wifes 2000 Ex from my local Ford dealer.

From my copious amount of searches on everything Excursion, I have read where the front Bilstein shocks (part number BE5-6208) should not be used with the new V code springs, but that I should use a Bilstein shock made for a 3" lift. Is this correct? And if that info is correct, does anyone have the Bilstein part number?

Also, does anyone have the Ford part number for the corresponding U-bolts that mount the new springs to the Ex? Or should I just tell the parts guy to give me the U-bolts listed for the F250/350 4x4's?

One last thing, the appropriate Bilstein shock to use with the new B codes in the rear are BE5-6209, which are the same as if I kept the OEM springs, right? Will that rear shock still work if I ordered the tapered 3.5" rear block (used on the F350) to go along with the new rear springs?

Thanks for the help guys.

The new V codes will only net you 1.5" over stock springs, and should be well within the limits of the shocks.

I'm not sure how much lift comes from the B codes, if any, but that block is only worth 1.5" as well on the back there.

The front U-bolts are the exact same as the ones you have. The fronts are all 2 leaf springs so X, 250 or 350 ones will work. Even from a gasser.

Thanks for the reply!

At another site, a member reported that Bilstein advised him to get the OEM replacement shocks made for the F250, which are just a tad longer than the OEM replacement shocks made for the Excursion. Makes sense, since the corrosponding U bolts for the new springs need to be replaced on the Ex with F250 bolts.

I'm stil trying to get ahold of Bilstein myself so I can be sure, before ordering the shocks made for the F250.

I hadn't run into this yet.

This weekend hopefully I will get to do the springs. The rears with the add-a-leaf are 1/4" thicker than stock, and if I add to the front as well it will be 3/8" thicker. I was thinking the X u-bolts would work just fine. Can you expand on this further? How did you wind up so thick on the springs?

The stock rear shocks mount different on the tops, as far as I know the fronts would be fine.

And you did the right thing calling Bilstein, get it from the horse's mouth.

It was based on different posts here and at another diesel site...but now you have ME wondering!

Hmmmmm, I guess I'm gonna have to see if I can get a proper measurement on the present U bolts to try and ascertain if they would still work for the F250 springs.

BTW, I talked with Shane at Bilstein today. He recommended using the shocks for the F250 4x4 on the front of my Ex, part number BE5-2818-H0, but to stay with the Bilsteins for the 4x4 Excursion on the rear, part number BE5-6209-H0.

Shane said the fronts need the extra length because the front springs raise the Ex about an inch an a half, but the Bilsteins for the rear are long and have a lot of travel. He said you could put a 3" lift on the Ex and still use the stock Bilstein for the rears.

PS - My springs came in today. I picked them up at my local dealership. Now all I need is the Hellwig and the Bilsteins and it'll be time to tackle this job.

Do let me know when it's done. Hopefully I will get to mine this weekend. I've been waiting months. With the add-a-leaf my rears are 3 3/4" stock is 3 1/2".
