hey guys i just found fuel leaking and i thought it was the rear main but got to checking it was fuel comeing from the valley in the middle of the block between the heads and running back over the back of the block and then down. any body might know where to look for the leak or what it might be is this common for the 7.3 psd
Usually it's the fuel pump. It has a small weep hole on the bottom, hard to see, you have to use a dental mirror. Other places to check, banjo gaskets on rear of fuel pump, hoses connecting fuel pump to fuel filter housing, hoses on feed and return lines, FPR o-ring, fuel filter housing cracked.
Take paper towels and a long screw driver and dry up the valley. Run the truck for a short time and check and see where the fuel is connecting, then look in that area.
I had a small fuel leak from the fuel filter cap once. I could smell diesel fuel when I stopped at a red light, or when idling in driveway. I bought a filter from AutoZone - it came with a new lid, and it didn't seem to seal right. I got a new filter from NAPA, and re-used my old lid, and no more leak.
almost sure the bowl has a hole in the botom, very common for these trucks. The dirt from the fuel builds at the bottom and corrodes the bowl. Might be able to find a good one from a junk yard if not $400 from Ford. If the hole is a small one you might ba able to use that liquid weld stuff. Good luck
Fuel pump from Ford is $145.00. NAPA is $105.00. AZ is $95.00. But AZ is not a Carter. With some good direction from others here I just changed mine recently.
