My early 99 has almost 200k on it and never needed it to be replaced. Ford knows but doesn't care. Do a search on TDS for DieselDawg and see how many he's replaced. I'd say a dozen.

Could be a bad batch of sensors that were not screened correctly and didn't go thru ESS testing or burn-in. The CPS,which is a Hall effect device, is being used in many automotive applications now and is generally speaking a reliable solid state component. The gent at TDS who replaced many may have another problem causing the premature failure of the device but i'm making an educated guess.

Yeah, I saw the Dawg at a wedding the other night and he's finally thrown in the towel and brought the truck to a shop.

I will put money on the possiblily of incorrect depth and it's hitting internally. just a guess but replacing that many there is definatly something else wrong, mine is a 2000 with 104,000 on it and stiill has the original one in it. Local tow truck company has a 01 with just over 300k and never replaced his either (although he has gone through a couple starters and about 4 altenators but no CPS)
