CPS

Does a CPS generally throw a code when it is on the way out? If so, what code?

I would say it is most likely a P0344 code.

CPS codes are in the P034x range. But if it just completely fails, it won't throw a code. In short, the PCM can't tell the difference between a completely dead CPS and the engine just not turning.

Good info right there. That would explain why it throws a code sometimes and some times no code.

Thanks. The truck "bucks" a few times, and yesterday when it bucked it then shutdown. It started right back up, and and ran fine the rest of the day.

Is a OEM Ford CPS still the best one to get?

Thanks again!

The OEM Ford CPS for 94.4 - 03 part # is F4TZ12K073C.

Where is the best price including tax & shipping?

(Clay) Riffraffdiesel.com is $28.19 for everything to Florida

You're going to be hard pressed to beat Clay's prices or customer service. Transit times suck though because he is out west...

It's funny, Riffraff sells the OEM Ford CPS with the 'C' on the end which fits from 1994.5 - 2003, but you see the OEM Ford CPS with the same number and a 'B' on the end which only works with 1997 - 2003.

In short the 'C' fits them all, and the 'B' fits a narrower selection. Wonder why? Maybe the 'B' is an older version!

That's exactly why. The letter designation on the end of the part number is the revision of the part. Therefore B is the second gen, and C is the third revision (current version) of the part.

Thank you! I wonder what internal design change was made to make it more compatible with a larger number of vehicles?

Yeah, I've got the "C" CPS. Engine runs good since I installed it. No problems at all since I replaced the original failing one years ago.
