Hey,
Trying to keep my truck all original so I bought a 80-86 OEM am/fm radio on ebay, my truck is an 82 XLS and I think the radio came from an 86. Looks like it fits...it's close but the display part that fits through the bezel between the ***** is just about a 1/16th too big. I don't mine keeping the radio for parts since they're hard to come by, but is anyone familiar with the bezel types/years......I'm a bit gun-shy about getting another one since this was surprisingly so close, but not quite!
Cheers
Yeah, I know I can make it it with a bit of cutting, but I don't want to be cutting or replacing the bezel, would defeat my object of keeping it original since it has an XLS logo...but interesting jinserra you found the same problem with an 86 deck, which I think is what I've got, I guess I should make sure I get an 82.
Thanks
Anything from 1980 to 1984, if it is a shaft mount would fit fine. No cutting of bezels required. You may have to modify the radio wiring plugs though, cause they changed around Circa 1982-1983.
The earlier car radios from the 1970's will fit as well. The radios from the 1973-1979 pickups will not fit!
The only real differences between the 1980 to 1984 radios with shaft mount, is internal workings, and the faceplates. They changed the faceplates, the thing that has cassette tape and the radio dial on it. in 1983. But the older faceplates 1980-1982 will fit right on the newer 1983 or 1984 radio.
The cassette deck in my truck is a:
E4AF-19A198-AA
There is a picture of it in my gallery.
I also have a E3AF-19A198-AA, for parts and it is identical except for some of the internal circutry.
Both of these radio's fit fine without any cutting of anything.
I also replaced the speaker harness in the doors and to the radio with a harness out of a 1994 F-150, so I could use the newer E9AF-18808-AA premium speakers. You could modify the plugs for the newer speakers, but I like my wires without splices so, I just swapped harnesses. Fit like a champ.
I also lucked out and found a pair of Factory speaker baffles in the same 1994 F-150. The baffles take the hollowness sound caused by the doors out of the speakers and sound great when installed.
A Radio delete plate # D5UB-1104371-AA will also fit over the radio hole if you want to go that way.
Hope this helps...

If your speakers are dead, or dying... I'm EXTREAMLY happy with my dual brand speakers. Paied $30 for the pair, they're 6.5" so I had to do some extreamly minor trimming (less then 1/8" all the way around... Can JB weld it to origional specs if you want)
The cutout diamiter for theese speakers is about 5 1/2" mabey 5 5/8"
If you'd amp them, I'm sure they'd sound like crap, but since they have a high sensitivity, they sound great off of low power.
