It started yesturday, cut out for a split second 3 times but kept running. Then today I was pulling up to a stop sign and it stalled. It started right back up. I have a SCMT, so when I got home from work I ran the diagnostics. According to the SCMT there were no DTC's.
That's what I guessed, but I thought it would throw a code. The + terminal on both batteries (both are the original batteries) had a good bit of corrosion as well, I cleaned them as well.
When it momentarily cuts out, pay close attention to the tach. Mine did something very similar to what you're describing (except the complete dying at a stop sign) and my RPM's never dropped. When I lost my CPS my tach dropped to 0. It may not be your CPS....
My 02 had the same thing happen to it. the ecu on the truck has to detect multiple malfunctions on the same system in a drive cycle before it will set a code for a check engine light. Also when you turn the truck off it clears the code until it happens again in another drive cycle. check your wiring to the cps to make sure it's not a wire grounding out on a rubbed through spot then replace sensor.
Not really sure what they changed but in 2002 the Tach is not soley dependent on the cps. That is why the tach does not move during cranking. kinda like the spedo where it can be run off a wheel speed sensor in case of VSS failure
I cleaned the corrosion off the terminals and the truck has not had any problems since. Could this have been the problem?
Don't count on it,unless the corrosion was real bad. Did u pull off the terminals and clean to bare metal and treat with baking soda/warm water solution?
Nut
While you are at it check the 42 pin connector over the driverside valve cover and on the backside of it where the wires come out near the cover check them for chaffing.
CPS and electrical probs can be intermittant and its hard to tell if they are fixed until you get a few miles on the repair
