My wife and two of her friends took the truck, horse trailer and three horses to a park today for a little ride. About 30 mins. later, I got a phone call from my wife that they were stalled in the middle of an intersection. "The truck would not stop, and then died!" Can you see were this is going?
I am on my way to the parts store to buy a protected switch for the TC LOCK!
i did that by accident. i had a girl with me and i was in conversation and i totally forgot about the green light in the pillar. the engine kept pushing the truck into the intersection and i laid on the brakes but the truck kept chugging along. eventually it stalled in the intersection. luckily there were no cars coming and i escaped with a damaged ego.
That's why you guys need to rig it up on a momentary switch to turn it on, have a relay latch itself open then wire the brake pedal hot to another relay to trip the negative of the first rerlay to turn it off if you hit the brakes.
I plan to do it this way. It'll work fine for me this way since I plan to use it on the highway mostly and not in stop/go driving.
If you need a diagram let me know, I'll draw it up and post it.....
So, if you wire it up that way, it will unlock every time you hit the brakes? That's one of the things I was trying to get around with the TC lock switch. Every time I'd hit the brakes, it would unlock. This get's annoying on the highway, especially if you're pulling a trailer on some hills. Diesels don't have much engine braking, but losing it all because the TC unlocks when pulling a trailer is no fun.
the only time my TC lock comes in handy is when the brakes are supposed to be used. it really cuts down on the brake usage, i can let the engine slow the truck down and brake when i need to.
Did you show the wife how to use the switch. Once was enough for me, it hasn't happened since. Mines bright red, and I went for the "whatever you do, don't touch that button" speech. I see that you and your wife probably share the truck so this IS a good warning. My wife is afraid of my truck, so I lucked out there.
