LOL, DOHC, I was just like you at one time. But every morning I get in the Vette and every afternoon I leave work there is this very big grin on my face. But overall I agree with you. If and when I ever decide to by a commuter car it will be based on cost of ownership.
I hear ya........that's why there will always be something fast and nasty in the garage.
amen to that, i'll walk to work before getting rid of my trucks for a import.
now food for thought, my buddy picked up a 96 escort wagon for 750 bucks. its rockin a 1.9 litre 4 cyl, that after a tune up and some exhaust work, is pushing 43 mpg, it is a wagon hes using it instead of his truck to haul mowers around.
also my grandma has been driving the same 87 olds cutlass ceira for the last 12 or 13 years, the old 2.5 keeps going and going, regular oil changes and a couple of belts, the car continualy gives 40 mpg
i have a old high school friend whos a chevy nut, he took the built 350 out of his 78 custom delux full size truck that got 13 mpg on a good day, and put it in a 86 s10 that pulls 25 mpg and hes a lead foot.
for me i dont drive much, short trip to work. if gas prices get insane i'll jump on the bike, 21 speed mountain bike not a motor cycle, and ride that to work.
the one good thing about high gas prices, used trucks are getting cheaper and theres more of them to choose from, i might just go get another one
