If you are not running a crossflow, anywhere in the top radiator tank will give you a good reading of engine temperature.
Another thought came to me: I have found that there is a considerable difference in the electrical value of sending units. Once, using Stewart Warner gauges and senders, I discovered there was as much as 10% variation. Which at 200*F means twenty degrees of error. I had to try six senders to get one that was right on. So what I did was to buy ten, experiment till I found a good one and returned the rest.
I don't think Ford senders are that bad, but if you discover that your 180* stat give you 180* in the top tank as measured with your Fluke, maybe you could experiment with senders till you find one that puts the needle in the center of your gauge at 180*.
Hey AZ65F250I was refering to the Round style just like in my gallery. While searching for Temp gauges ( mine took a dump ) I visited all pick-a-parts and swap meets I could until I found working gauges. At first with no luck at s/m or p-a-p I started calling Vendors Bob's f100, Autokrafters, Carolina Classics and others I don't recall each one gave me a quote of $90-95.00 the round speedometer was $75.00 so for a rebuild gauranteed to work Round cluster was $250.00 less the idiot lights I did not price. That's why I said when you find the gauges hang on to them, if your looking for something else and you find the gauge cluster grab them. because you never know when you need one.
