Please tell me if I am reading this correctly, will Jody take my stock PCM and re-flash it with whichever tune I would like for $75? If so, would I have to remove the PCM and send it to him in order to have this done? Of course, Asheville isn't too far from me, so I guess I could just give him a visit. My main goal is to increase fuel mileage, so I would think this is a pretty good deal. My truck has stock exhaust with Kwik filter and no gauges, which flash would y'all reccomend? I know I need all the other stuff, but I'm really low on cash right now. But I could make up $75 in no time with a decent increase in economy, and eventually get the flip chip and all the other stuff when I have mo' money. Fill me in, I appreciate it.

Reason: addition
Yes he will reburn your PCM and yes you would have to remove it for him to do it. I highly recommend a EGT gauge prior to pumping up the HP. However, as long as you are not pulling anything heavy or staying on the throttle for more than 30 seconds, you would probably be OK with his 80 econo tune. As for better fuel milage, you will actually get worse for the first 6 months because you won't be able to keep your foot out of the throttle. I have had mine for almost a year, and I still can't make a tank full with at least a couple of "romps". Still puts a grin on my face.....
I have the 40 hp tow flash from Jody (I had Jody send me one already flashed and then I returned my stock one to him - I couldn't be without my truck ). As westpd said, get gauges BEFORE you put in any performance mods...

Within the limits of your engine, yes.
It depends. If you give him the PCM codes, he can mail you a programmed unit and you can mail him back yours within a reasonable time. That is what I didi
I dont really ever pull anything of any size, just a small trailer with a lawnmower or similar, and as much as I would love to really get on the throttle, I baby my truck, so I don't think I could let myself do it. I would definitely consider straight-piping the stock exhaust if it would actually aid in keeping EGTs down..... input?????
I will eventually get all the gauges, at least 4" exhaust, and most likely upgrade to a flip chip. I'm just looking for something I can do now, without investing a whole bunch of money, thats gonna help my wallet bear these high fuel prices. Thanks for the input, keep it coming.
I definitely dont need any "tow" tunes. I am going more for econo. Race sounds a little extreme for what I'm trying to do right now, without gauges and larger diameter exhaust. How would the 80hp Econo match up with what I'm trying to do?????
The 80 econo dyno's at 103 HP at the rear wheels. IMHO you are playing russian roullette by doing this. You are doing things backwards. I understand being short on $$ I have had my truck for 3 years and just got my tunes from Jody two days ago. Your first mod should be gauges, you might as well get all three and know you are well equipted. These will run $300, then you need a new intake and exhaust or you will be able to exceed the 1250 EGT limit easily. You can do the DIY Tymar for $50 or the Ford AIS for $200. If you are just going to do a economy tune like the 80 you don't need a full 4" exhaust. You can do the walker BTM muffler from Napa for $40. My EGT's dropped 100-150 degrees with the AIS/BTM combo. Jody says the AIS/BTM set up is perfect for the 80 econo and even the 120 race tune. Next is you want to support the weal tranny. I did a complete valvebody for 4225 but you can do the sonnax kit for $50. Only now should you be adding more ponies, otherwise you are asking for problems and you are putting the cart before the horse. I got the SCT2 unit with the 60 tow and 80 econo tune. I never thought 6 tires could move so fast. I normally drive very conservative but after downloading the tune I found myself in two street races that night. BTW. I won both of them!!! The gp pedal is a lot more sensative with these tunes and easily to get carried away so do it right and in the right order. Or just charge it and do it all at once!!!! Just wanted to give you some honest advice. PM me with any ??
The flash is nice, but with the chip you have "on-the-fly" capability. Last longer? Both are electrical components, so cannot see any difference there. The PCM flash is definitely the way to go if you only need one tune, or don't want to spend alot. Either way you cannot go wrong. I personally have the flip chip with with 3 tunes, and now I am sending it back to get 2 more tunes put in. One day I am towing my 32' travel trailer, the next day racing my brothers Duramax (which I beat). Gotta have the choice of programs!
One doesn't last any longer than another. If you reflash your PCM you will loose the factory settings and if you are under warranty you won't be anymore. When you reflash the PCM it is only one tune, if you want more than one tune you need a chip or tuner. A chip goes in the PCM and holds several different tunes up to 16 with DPTuners new device, you select which tune you want to run by a cable that goes from the PCM to some type of contol device. Now with a tuner like my SCT2 you never have to touch the PCM, you simply plug it into your OBDII port and the tuner will download the factory program so you can always restore it, or you can download a tune that you have on the tuner. The SCT2 tuner is also a code reader and clearer. along with being able to adjust the speedo for different size tires and you can adjust many different parameters of the powertrain. I hope this explains it.
Thanks for the info guy's. It looks like a flash is in my future. I drive a company car all week and only drive my tuck on the weekends and when I'm towing my TT. I have a 75hp BD chip in right now, and I think it's on it last legs, so a flash with a 60 tow should work just fine a little extra HP for towing, and and just enough HP to keep the truck light on her feet while just driving around.
Good choice....you will find that Jody's 60 tow will waaayyyy outperform your existing chip. You will be very happy!
Doubtful if he will be happy with Jody's 60HP Tow tune. I was for a while (a couple weeks) then I wanted more. Now I am unhappy again. It's all Jody and Brian's fault. I believe the official term is PMS and unfortunately, my engine has PMR.

PMS + PMR = TNT
Oh well, I have PMR also. You cannot put a price on fun!
