Installing side windows and runs

I'm going to install new side windows and runs with new wipes in my 56 this weekend and I'm looking for any tips or problems I might encounter.I took out the old glass last fall but I think I remember how they came out but I'm looking for mostly tips with the glass runs and wipes.
Thanks,
John F.

That's the next thing to do on my list. I've had the parts for several months but it's just too hot now in the shop...or thats the excuse I'm currently using. This is the project that I have really been dreading. Hoping for many tips!

Best thing to do is get a shop manual. The lower anti-rattle strips simply snap in and should be put in without the window installed. The other window strip that goes around the window opening is very similar but has a few screws holding it on. Install all the new wipes and lastly install the window. Try and move the window up and down first without mounting it, to make sure the strips aren't binding against the window and the window seats properly when closed. The rails can be tricky, install the window but keep the rails finger tight. Make all your adjustments and tighten so that the window goes up and down smoothly and doesn't move back and forth. You also have watch the windwing for proper adjustment and closing. Don't make the rails too tight against the window and don't force the window up if it won't go smoothly, or you'll crack the window. Get ready to scratch up your forearms!

John,

I've made a couple of attempts at mine (48 F-3) but I ended up quiting both times in disgust. I may have to have mine hired out. It's a one piece glass and I haven't figured out exactly where the new channel is supposed to go and how it goes in. Apparently my aftermarket anti-rattle strips are supposed to be glued in. I can imagine how that's going to turn out...

Let us know how things go with yours...

Vern

I put the window channels in first, then the felt wipes that go at the bottom of the window opening. They snap in place put you have to watch and not exert to much pressure or the clips bend instead of seating in the holes. As I recall I ended up using a small wood block to seat them. I also had to mash the ends of the wipes flat so they would lay behind the channel on each end. I used the one piece glass so I didn't have to deal with the vent. As stated earlier, put the glass in by itself and lift it up and down to be sure you don't have any binding before you attach to the lift mechanism or power unit, whichever you are using. The channels go in from the top and you have to go real slow to keep from kinking them. Hope this made sense. Good luck.
