Base Timing And Total [351-m

Can Anyone Inform Me On Base And Total Timing Specs For A 79 351 M . I Just Installed An Edelbrock Timing Set In The Advance Position And The Truck Now Pings Like Hell

You need to put it back at zero.

why ? it's only 4 degree advance

its really 8 degrees as stock is 4 retard. your building too much cylinder pressure.i presume this is a stock cam?

it runs perfect , but when I tow it ping's . I have my dought's about going to straight up

ping == too much advance somewhere. if it started after you bumped base cam timing by 8 degrees, then that's probably the reason. unless you also disabled your EGR while you were at it... Even with EGR, straight up is the way to go, or you'll have to retard somewhere else (eg: max vacuum advnace)...
