A/C Blew up?

A friend from the US sent me a complete A/C hose setup which he bought at some aftermarket place. I installed that new hose and at the spot where the hose touches the steering rack, I wrapped it into that black spongy insulation material which is often seen on heater hoses. I've done this about 6-7 years ago and no problems ever since. I'll take a picture tonight and post it.
How come you don't have A/C parts in Canada? I lived near Toronto back in the 80's and every car I rode in had A/C - today I'd say more cars have A/C than back then.....

sorry, no pics possible. It's too cramped down there and I can't get the camera in a good position.
