Last week, I noticed my a/c wasn't blowing as cold as it used to. I thought possibly low on freon.
On Sunday, we needed to turn on the heater and found that the rear blows hot, the front vents are only blowing cold air. Could this be related to low freon. I've read past posts and heard of blend door problems. Have no idea what the heck a blend door is or where to find it?
Sounds like a blend door problem. When blowing cold up front and hot in the rear, what setting do you have the selector on? Panel or floor? If so, these will not engage the AC compressor, but all other settings will.
Try a search of "blend door" and you'll find a lot of info. I didn't know what one was for a long time.
I had the **** on defrost, then tried floor, then floor/panel, then switched over to ac and max ac. No difference. It kept blowing cold with temp control full right (heat).
I'll try disconnecting the battery overnight and see what happens in the morning (someone suggested that worked for them when I searched past posts)
Does it seem right that the rear vents blow hot even though the front doesn't? Wouldn't the blend door control heat to the rear vents as well or do they have a different air source??
My '99 expy blows hot air to the rear when the heater is on but only cold in the front. When the a/c is on the front is cold but the rear blows hot, I was told this is a blend door problem.
I fixed mine by replacing the part that pivots the blend door. $5 part from the dealer. I don't have the part number with me, if you need it, I can get it for you when I get home later today.
took a couple of hours start to finish, it's kind of a pain getting back in there behind the glove compartment even once everything is taken out of the way.
Dave I'm having the same proble your having and I'm also going to disconnect the battery and see what happens. I sure hope it's not the Blend Door cuz from what it sounds it's a tough job to fix it and expensive. I have a 99 Expedition. Also my rear wiper light is stuck on an I keep hearing this beap every now and then so I'm thinkning the computer just needs to be rest or something. I sure hope so. Give me an E-Mail at dslagle@bnctransit.com if the battery thing works for you. I will give that a try too. Good luck! PS: Is this a Ford defect if it sure sounds like there's allot of this going around! What the Hell!
So I can get Dave's E-mail to find out what happened with his 99 Expedition with the Heater problem. If you want Shoot me an E-Mail at "dslagle @ bnctransit.com"
