Im thinking about making a custom board for my aftermarket gauges and put in a aftermarket speed and tach. Has anyone ever done this. i don't think it is gonna be that hard other than getting it to fit in the dash correctly. i want to use diamond tred.
I've been thinking something more devious ... using my background in computers I was thinking along the lines of getting a BASIC STAMP chip, running the leads from all the sending units to it, and then displaying the "gauges" graphically on a pair of LCD's run by a small Linux PC. Getting the values from the sending units is easy (for the most part, just measure the resistance and convert that to a sliding scale of known values). It's the graphical part that I've got no clue about.
That was a excellent dash and makes me jelous. I have thought of the same lines for years on one of my trucks. I has a s10 that I use on the weekends to run the roads. I even have the brushed alumnuim cut out and the smaller 2" gauges installed and a 4 " tach. The speedo is costley. I have had this truck for about 5 years and it has always been a project. It is not slammed or anything, if anything it is higher than stock.
I also have a ht 3.8 crate engine that I ordered a few years back for it and it runs true duels. I do however believe that if you want a truck Ford is the only real truck out there. I have about as spartan as you can get of a truck and the probally only option or luxary is the slideing back glass! It is a work horse though with just the 300 six and the four speed tranny. It has the granny low gear for first. Well, I should be in another thread I am sure so sorry I took off in this one. Great looking truck that was posted.
