Who is running aftermarket gauges?
i am gonna get some gauges for my 05' excursion and i'm wondering what brand gauges you guys like? i have been looking at speedhut gauges because they give you the option to custom design the gauges, has anyone used speedhut gauges? also i am going to pillar mount the gauges so i have 3 options to choose from, i am thinking i will get egt, oil, and water temp gauges, are these the 3 i should get?

Those 3 are good choices. If you are pulling a lot, the EGT makes a lot of sense. If you are not pulling or hauling, I figure fuel pressure would be the third.
I know gauges are cool looking, I had a Freightliner once that had 23 gauges, so having those three on the pillar look great.
I would suggest that getting a Scangauge II, as wulfman suggested, will compliment those three, for about the price of a fourth gauge. If you decide to do a Scangauge (which also reads and clears codes) I would gauge Fuel pressure, EGT and volts. And then set the Scangauge for ECT-EOT-Tranny-and which ever gauge you want on the screen for the fourth.
Just my thoughts.

If you want to do yourself a real favor...
A mechanical volt meter going straight to the terminal of the battery furthest away from the alternator (2nd battery).
Then whenever you get 2 significantly different readings in voltage... between the scangauge / OBD port and the mechanical meter, you can start asking questions.

Autometer - The ultra lite group. If you are just looking to monitor what is going on under the hood then plug into the OBD port. If you are trying to get to the root of a problem then mechanical gauges are the only way to go. Like someone else said you are going to see what the computer sees. Not what is really going on.
