Piston compression ratio chart

I have added a chart to help in selecting pistons based upon the chamber size. Hope this is helpful.

I am sincerely impressed with your selection. What would be real cool is if someone charted compression drain on cams- so if you could have an idea as to what cam to select for 87 pump etc. Get into some dynamic compression etc.

You could do a series of charts with different Intake Valve Closing angles (53.5, 58.5, 63, 66, and 72 degrees) and give the Dynamic CR for each set of piston/chamber combinations. Then you could also give the Octane requirement for each cell, color coding the cells green, yellow, and red for 87 Octane, 89 Octane, and 93 Octane.

However there are other variables, like fast burn chambers, and aluminum heads, that will change the Octane requirement. The danger in publishing these charts is that someone will interpret them as absolutely accurate, when they can only be used as guidelines, because of the number of undefined variables involved.

Even if each set were dyno tested, you couldn't say with certainty that someone wouldn't have detonation in another build, if they built it close to the limit.

Here is a link to the DC program that I use. It is also good for calculating static CR.

There is an Octane vs DC chart on Hotrodders Bulletin board. I'll post that link, if I can find it.
