The vibration feels as though it comes right up through your seat. I had almost excepted it as i am now used to it but i do find i speed lots to stay over 50 and avoid the shakes!
That is the EXACT thing most of us get! YOu're right though, I probably just didnt notice it as much with that load in the back of the truck. I only went about 3 miles with it. And yes, I find myself doing 50 in a 45 to avoid the shakes.
THIS IS ABSOLUTLY REDICULAS! First off, the dealership calls me today and is saying that, once again my tires are not balancedcorrectly. They hooked up vibration sensors and its "for sure" coming from the tires. So they want to charge me $200+ to road force balance my tires, since that isnt covered under the warrenty. Well I didnt do that, I figured since i bought the tires from schwab i would take them there and have them fix the mistake. So then Ford tries charging me another $200 for diagnosis. (I am starting to see why you guys call them stealerships).
Well i took it to les schwab and they redid the tire balancing agreeing that it was a little bit off, but nothing to major. Once they were done. i took it for a little drive. after 9-10 wheel balances its still doing it. whats so tuff for the dealership to understand.
anyways, i still have my stock wheels and tires, schwab said that they would re balance those for me and put them on my truck. if it stops they'll warrenty the wheels and tires, if not, Iv got some talking to do with my local ford dealer.
So im sorry to unload but im a little frustrated.
Ill let you guys know more as soon as i figure it out myself.
if you still have stock tires and wheels, take them to the dealership with them in the back of the truck. make a "deal" that if they put those wheels on "once they balance them with THEIR equipment" and then install them on the truck and the vibration is gone, then you pay for the balancing and be on your way... however if they do not fix the problem then thedealership has to eat the money they would have charged you for the balance. it think it's a fair deal.
i have heard that sometimes if you shim the carrier bearing down to staighten out the driveline could cure the shake, i have a shake at around 43mph, and have had the wheels balanced all that stuff and it is still there, mine kinda comes and goes sometimes. one week it is good then another is appears. i want to try and shim my carrier bearing but havent got around to doing yet, one day i guess. if i ever get around to doing it i will post my findings for you all.
I wonder if there are any recalls or service bulletins on this? Seems kinda odd that we all have the same issue. I am a bit miffed with the amount of balancing i have paid for on the tires. Is it worth trying to have the shaft checked and rebalanced? Or would it just occur again? The guys that did my trannie noticed it right away on road test and felt it was the shaft and that it is commen with the superduty, also that it would be tough on bearings in the output shaft and the rear diff if not repaired. How can Ford not sort this out?
Just to update you. Since I had my stock wheels and tires I balanced them (they were really close to start) and I put my stock wheels and tires back onto my truck. Its still vibrating just as bad as it was with the aftermarket. I dont know about you guys but thats telling me that its not my wheels and tires. I mean what are the chances of two completly different sets of wheels and tires being so offbalanced that they can shake the crap out of an 8000lb truck. Id say slim to none. This is what im going to say to ford when i take it back down there. hopefully they will see my point of view
Sorry Im a little ticked off.
If not im just gonna trade it in on an H2. Just joking.
i bet its a driveshaft problem. i guess it's like exhaust drone. sure the exhaust is always vibrating, but at a certain set frequency it just gets louder than then goes away out of that frequency.
i say its a driveshaft balance problem, but i am glad WOLFE is making the effort to get the dealer to say what it is.
there are a lot of guys with obs trucks that have this problem too.
Kris, read my earlier post about when I was hauling a small load. that is what led me to suspect the driveshaft. Wolfe has them in a position though that, maybe for once, we would really like to hear what the stealership has to say, lol.
Well I talked to the dealer again today. I made them the offer off letting them balance and if it works ill pay if not then i dont pay for the balancing. they said no. they said they know its the tires and not anything else but yet they wont take a chance of their balancing not fixing the problem. i dont get it. i want to take it to another dealer and have them check it out but then im gonna have to pay more. or i can just waits until it gets worse and more obvious that its not the tires, but with my luck nothing will go wrong or get anyworse for another 3 years when my warrenty is up.
