Why, when I lock the doors on my 04 F150 with the key fob the horn will chirp but to unlock there is no flashing lights to indicate that the doors are unlocked. I read through the manual and didn't see anything mentioning this, is this one of fords better ideas to go back to the dealership and spend more money for them to recode?

 

I bought my truck new and have never had the lights flash when I unlocked the doors. I do have the automatic on off lights and when it is dark outside or whenever the truck would normally turn the headlights on automatically, the lights will come on and stay on for a minute when you unlock the doors. Now during the day or when it is light outside if you unlock the doors it does not turn any lights on. Now when I lock the doors the horn will chirp and the lights will flash no matter what. Our 2005 Ford Freestar is basically the same way now my wifes Taurus does not turn any outside lights on when you unlock it at all. Now when you lock it the horn will chirp and the lights will flash which is the same on all of them.

 

About the only way to tell if you doors unlocked during the day, is to look at the high mounted light on the back of the cab. When the doors unlock, the 2 white areas light up. You can also see that your interior lights are on.

As hoffmavl said, the lights will come on at night, if you have the automatic headlamp option.

Or, again, check the high mounted tail light, the 2 white areas can easily be seen at night. You can also see the interior lights.

 

I just walked out to my truck (2006 F250 Superduty) and opened the driver side door, press and held lock/unlock for 3 seconds and released. This turned on my marker lights when locking and unlocking the truck. Hope this helps.

Generally, when locking or unlocking by remote, I'm close enough to hear the locks.

My '07 only turns lights on when unlocking if it's dusk or dark-dark. I know it is unlocked when I pull the handle and it opens if daylight. I do not recall what the high mount light does or doesn't do daylight unlocking.

It only beeps when you use the remote if you press "lock" a second time.
