Interior Dome light

Did a search and read the manual and I cant seem to turn of the dome lights when I open the doors. For example... Sometimes my daughter falls asleep and I want to open the door at night without the lights coming on... Or If the mosquitoes are going crazy I might want to turn off the light so I don't get killed... I know I can hold the switch to the right and it turns lights on with doors closed, and hold for a second to the left to turn off. But what about opening the door? I know my old 2007 was able to do this function...

The 2009s would - roll the dash brightness **** all the way to one end, and it would disable all the interior lighting. Unfortunately, they got rid of this for 2010... now there isn't a way to get it done easily. The only way (short of pulling fuses/bulbs/cutting wires) is to have your dealer enable the "police car dark mode" function in the BCM settings. This will keep the lights off permanently.

tvsjr ... have your dealer enable the "police car dark mode" function in the BCM settings.
What this gets you ...
  • interior -AND- all exterior (front / rear parking and cargo) lights do not come-on when the door is opened and/or closed. *EXCEPTION: Door key pad will still illuminate.
    .
  • when the fob is used to lock|unlock the doors, the parking lights come-on/turn-off for a VERY brief moment. *The time that the lights illuminate is MUCH, MUCH shorter than "normal". Would describe it as a flash.
    .
  • when using the key fob to lock the doors, the horn will not sound.

almost correct.

2010's were the same as 2009's

this feature was lost in 2011, not 2010.

FWIW.

You didn't mention what cab you have. I believe the crew cab trucks have a switch on the "rear" (middle) dome light that can be selected to off, but I don't know of any way to disable the front map lights.

FWIW, we have a 2010 in the fleet (about to get traded in... 212K on the clock) and it does NOT have this feature. The '09 that I drive does.

interesting.

all of the 2010's in our fleet have the thumb wheel where you can turn off the domelights.

wonder if it was a change made late in the 2010 MY.

It was a job 2 build... built in February I believe (purchased in March and it was ordered).

The 2014 that's been ordered to replace it will have the police dark mode enabled as a condition of sale!

Yes. I have that switch for the rear. But it only turns off the rear light. Not the 2 front ones.

well, I had some extra time today, so I stopped by my local Ford dealer and they were happy to change the interior lights to the "police dark mode" for me. It took only a few minutes and they did it free of charge, AWESOME !
