My old 2001 F-250 had a sticker on the core support that said "Ford Approved Modification" at the top, and "programming" was written in underneath. I'm assuming that meant the PCM was reflashed, since there was no chip in it. Does anyone know how much hp/tq Ford's reflashes added? Just by a seat of the pants comparison to my new truck, I would guess it added about 50hp and 50-75lb/ft. I don't need a ton of power, but I really miss the power and mileage my old truck had. Could Jody do a reflash that would have similar results? The only difference between my 2001 and my "new" 2002 is the 2002 has 295/75/16 tires, and the 2001 had 285/75/16 tires. They both have the same transmissions, modifications, and gearing. My 2001 would regularly get 21-23 MPG on the road, and so far the best I've seen with the 2002 is a little under 17. I don't think going up one size in tires would make that big of a difference, but maybe I'm wrong?
factory reflashes aren't for power they are to correct an error or tweak a specific thing in the computer. not sure why your two trucks feel different. but yes i think jody can reflash your computer with a performance program.
I could have sworn I read someplace where Ford did some kind of tow flash, but I could have dreamt it too . I'll have to give Jody a call. I bought a barely used Banks Turbo off of a wrecked truck and already have a 6.0 intercooler I'm thinking of putting in too, so I'll get his opinion on a reflash. Thanks for the reply
Jody's flash is cheaper and will include the latest Ford programs PLUS he will tack on 40 or 80 hp for you...I think you can swap with him for $75 bucks or send your pcm in for $50.
Did you have the same rear gears in both trucks? Probably so, it's not unusual for a bit of variation between seemingly similar trucks. The problem could be anywhere from boost leak, intake restriction, injector pressure/timing, driveline loss etc. When ya got a good one, all ya can do is smile and try to keep it up.
I don't think Ford ever worried about reflashing for fuel economy because those trucks were already sold. Like previously mentioned, to fix something or prevent future warranty claims.
